Last night's moon, high in the heavens with a great ring around it - not a good photo
but it serves as a remembrance.

and this morning's painterly sky at 6.43 a.m.

Skywatch Friday
Sept. 23rd, 2010

A Sunday drive under unsettled skies....

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings;  Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.  The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.  John Muir

One of three rainbows we saw on this little journey - the second
was plastered to the granite rocks at the base of Daly Bluffs

I trust in Nature  for the stable laws of beauty and utility.  Spring shall plant and Autumn garner to the end of time.  Robert Browning

Delicious autumn!  My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.  George Eliot

The third rainbow as we drove up the lane to home.

The early evening brought more troubled clouds

but a patch of the setting sun caught a knoll on the mountainside
in its lovely light

There are more pictures from this Sunday jaunt
posted on Sunday, the 19th, below...

'Autumn begins with a subtle change in the light,
with skies a deeper blue, and nights that become suddenly clear and chilled'.

Crazy mixed up skies here in the Similkameen today....

We woke to rain and still at lunch time the skies were dour and threatening

So we had a little nap.

And when we woke just after two the sun was filtering through the clouds.

Blue sky began to appear.....

What a great picture taking day!!

We set off down the lane and the wispy clouds around K Mountain looked promising

A few more clouds came to see what was happening as we made our way to the Upper Bench

A few raindrops gathered on the windshield as we came to the turn to go along the Cawston Bench

The rain came pelting down, then cleared, then started once more
as we came to the east end of Ginty's Pond

It continued this way, lightening, then darkening

..until at last we reached the highway and turned towards home in a driving rain.
Across the meadow a faint rainbow crept across the rocky hillside,

We turned westward and through the clouds and the pelting rain the sun shone, quite determinedly

Look, look, here towards the north there is blue sky again!

But as we arrive home a rainbow appears in the east, where the skies are still troubled

We had been gone just over an hour, but the heavens had not settled yet.

I sprang from the table at supper to catch the sun on the hills to the east....

and again when another rainbow appeared over the Fairview Pass

Dusk was upon us, then night fell and the moon shone through the clouds

and the day was done as far as the camera was concerned.

Similkameen Skies

Another beautiful rainbow in the sky above the Cawston Bench

Friday, September 10, 2010

After a stormy day the sun found its way through a thin cloud,
lit up a slender finger on the hillside
and caught within its prism a misty patch of rain
and a vibrant spectrum of rainbow colours.

The long lens brought the magical colours closer and clearer and pinpointed
just exactly where the pot of gold lay waiting.
